The shooting of the video began at end of April and was in cooperation with director Lin Chun at an outdoor swimming pool. Originally, artificial rain was planned, however, the sunny weather turned stormy within two hours after the shooting started. While the sudden change of weather turned everything into chaos, it actually made the video more real. “I thought I could take a break when it was raining, but instead, the shooting continued under the rain,” guitarist Jesse said. “Shooting an MV is more tiring than recording or performing on stage, it’s killing me.”

 

Comics in the video expresses ideas about challenging the authority to go along with the story told in the song. The song “Sail into the Sunset’s Fire” recounts the stories of pirates in East Asia in the Age of Exploration. “We’re not encouraging kidnapping ships or robbing money, but the brevity to bid farewell to the old world, sail towards the unknown, and challenge the conventional authority is indeed inspiring,” said Freddy, the lead vocalist of CHTHONIC. According to historical accounts, the pirates—who came from islands between Japan and Indonesia—had planned to overthrow the Ming Empire of China and the Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan, and some of them eventually settled along Taiwan’s western coast.

 

Characters in CHTHONIC’s latest album “Bú-Tik” travel through time and space and through violent scenes in Taiwan’s history, including the pirate adventures centuries ago, armed clashes across the island in the 18th century, and the prisoners’ riot in the last century..etc. “In writing the album, we pondered the true meaning of ‘bú-tik’, as well as what real peace is,” said Drois, the band leader.

 

CHTHONIC’s new album “Bú-Tik” will be released by late May and early June by Universal Music/Spinefarm around the world. The Taiwanese version would be available in Taiwan, while the English version would be available worldwide.
